What is CLOE certification?

CLOE certification(Compétences Linguistiques Oraleset Écrites) is a comprehensive assessment of proficiency in French as a foreign language (FLE) from level A1 to C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It is designed to measure an individual’s ability to communicate in everyday and professional situations.

How does CLOE certification work?

CLOE certification assesses the four main language skills:

Reading comprehension

Duration: 60 minutes
Format: MCQs (multiple-choice questions) and matching exercises
Skills assessed :
- Ability to understand the general meaning and details of a written text
- Ability to identify important information
- Ability to understand the structure and organization of a text

Written production

Duration: 60 minutes
Format: Writing of two texts (a written interaction task and an argumentative written production)
Skills assessed :
- Ability to write clear, precise and grammatically correct text
- Ability to organize ideas logically and coherently
- Ability to use appropriate vocabulary and grammatical structures

Listening comprehension

Duration: 40 minutes
Format: Listening to audio recordings and answering questions
Skills assessed :
- Ability to understand the general meaning and details of oral discourse
- Ability to identify important information
- Ability to understand the speaker’s intentions and attitudes

Oral production

Duration: 20 minutes
Format: Oral interaction exercise and monologous oral production
Skills assessed :
- Ability to express oneself clearly, fluently and grammatically correctly
- Ability to organize ideas and argue one’s point of view
- Ability to interact with another speaker

The rating system

Each test is graded from 0 to 20 points. The final score for CLOE certification is the average of the scores obtained in the four tests.

This course is designed for students who are beginners. It aims to develop communicative competence to enable students to make themselves understood and to understand in very simple everyday situations.
